Following a visit to Ghana in November 2012 we have been working within a small consortium of partners to develop new school buildings. Ghana has a need for hundreds of new schools both to replace older and dilapidated buildings and to provide new ones in many rural areas where there is no provision. We have designed the buildings to be largely prefabricated and to use local materials and labour in order to deliver better quality buildings at affordable cost. We also incorporate clean water supplies and power technologies where they are needed. We are planning to build the first new schools in 2013/14 and then roll out a programme of several hundred over the next 5 years.
Partners include Richardson and Peat, Elsie Owusu Architects, Mark Ellerby Architects, and Sustain Ghana.
