Self-build Passivhaus in the National Park
(Currently under construction)
We have been commissioned to provide Passivhaus design services and Code assessment for this new self-build home in Snowdonia. Construction of a house had been started in the 1970’s but never completed and a new more sympathetic design has been approved by the local authority.
The site lies on the north side of a hill reducing the benefits obtainable from solar gain but there is enough room on the site to allow thick walls in order to achieve very good levels of insulation.
The main envelope is to be granite faced cavity construction on a cast slab with a slate roof. The minimal space heating and hot water is to be provided by an air source heat pump and log burners.
Design started early in 2011 and ground-works in the autumn of 2011, with completion scheduled for late 2012.
