This is a mixed use development on a redundant industrial site at Combe Down near Bath. It consists of 9 dwellings built to Code Level 5 and a Mines Interpretation Centre meeting the BREEAM ‘Very Good’ standard.
Our early modelling, assessments and advice have been used to develop the designs and to achieve very low energy demands through excellent fabric standards. The designs pay attention to orientation and form and include low heat loss construction methods and triple glazing. The incorporation of a small amount of photovoltaics has reduces the regulated emissions to below zero. The designs allow a number of heating options and natural or mechanical ventilation.
The site also incorporates a combination of water attenuation, rainwater harvesting and a green roof reducing water consumption achieving Lifetime Homes and Secured by Design.
The project has been Highly Commended in the 2013 House Builder Awards in the category of Best zero and Low Carbon Initiative.
