Threshold Co-Housing Project, Gillingham, Dorset
Architects, Bruges Tozer Partnership www.brugestozer.co.uk
This pioneering co-housing development was subject to some strict planning conditions as an exception site under a section 106 agreement.
We were commissioned by Threshold Centre to carry out energy and sustainability consultancy and compliance assessments for the conversion of two existing farm buildings (Settebrook and Timber Barns) into seven new dwellings.
Working with Richard Swann of Bruges Tozer Partnership we assisted in optimising the performance of the new buildings and the development of the biomass fuelled district heating system specification and other renewables. We also advised on options to improve the seven existing dwellings and the common-house.
The development achieved an Ecohomes Excellent rating.
It also won the RIBA South West Town and Country Design Housing award 2010 and the Green Building Council/Building Magazine Sustainable Housing Project of the Year 2010.
